'Lady Vengeance' Bags Korea's Top Movie Honors

Director Park Chan-wook's "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" won Best Picture of the Year in Tuesday's 2005 Blue Dragon Awards. As the 26th award ceremony unfolded in splendor on Tuesday evening at the KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, "Sympathy" also took a Best Actress award.

Lee Young-ae won her first award as Best Actress in a Leading Role, finally gaining official recognition as the finest performer in Korea's Hollywood, Chungmuro. Best Director went to Park Jin-pyo of "You are My Sunshine". Hwang Jung-min bagged the Best Actor Award for his performance as a pure, innocent rural bachelor in the same movie.

The surprise box office hit "Welcome to Dongmakgol" was rewarded with Best Supporting Actor (Im Ha-ryong) and Actress (Kang Hye-jung). It was the second time for Kang Hye-jung to win in the category after she earned it for her part in "Oldboy". "Welcome to Dongmakgol" also took the Most Popular Film award for its huge box office numbers, having drawn over 8 million moviegoers.

Hosted by Jung Joon-ho and Kim Hye-soo, the ceremony lived up to its reputation as the most glamorous event bringing Korea's movie stars together, with more than 1,800 seats filled and all the top stars including Lee Byung-hun, Choi Min-sik, Jeon Do-yeon and Son Ye-jin in attendance.
