A Good Lawyer's Wife invited to Venice

Korean director IM Sang-soo's third film A Good Lawyer's Wife has been selected to compete in the "Venezia 60" competition section of the Venice International Film Festival, which runs from August 27 to September 6. The selection of the film marks the fifth year in a row that a Korean film has been featured in the prestigious competition section, following Jang Sun-woo's Lies (1999), Kim Ki-duk's The Isle (2000), SONG Ilgon's Flower Island (2001), Kim Ki-duk's Address Unknown (2001), and Lee Chang-dong's Oasis (2002).
A Good Lawyer's Wife tells the story of a contemporary Korean family with complex attitudes toward sex and promiscuity. Director IM has previously won praise for Girls Night Out (1998) and Tears, which screened at the Berlin International Film Festival's Panorama section.
The film also stars actress Moon So-ri, who won the MarCello Mastroianni Award for an outstanding young actor or actress at last year's Venice festival for Oasis. This year Moon takes on an entirely different role as a wife who takes up an affair with a boy in high school.
In other news, KIM Hyeon-sung's Mr. Butterfly became the first Korean feature ever selected to screen in Venice's Critics Week section.
