Myung Films and Lotte Entertainment have announced that their theatrical animation ""Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild"" has been invited to the 44th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia's Sitges Kids section.

Based on a best-selling children's novel, Leafie is a dramatic animation directed by Oh Seong-yoon with the voice talents of award-winning actors Moon So-ri ("Oasis") and Choi Min-sik ("Oldboy"). The animation also features the voice talent of young Yoo Seung-ho, who previously dubbed the voice for Astro Boy in Korea and starred in the recent Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) Closing Film "Blind".

"Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild" is co-produced by Myung Films ("JSA - Joint Security Area", "Cyrano Agency") and Odoltogi Studio. It is due for release in South Korea on July 28 through distributor Lotte Entertainment. The animation has already clocked up 35,338 admissions and KW203.65m (US$193,900) in preview screenings at the box office.

It was previously announced at the European Film Market (EFM) in February that Chinese distributor Dadi Entertainment Ltd. and Myung Films signed a cooperation agreement to have a day-and-date release of Leafie in China on around 1,000 screens.

Seoul-based sales company Finecut is handling international sales for the animation, which it launched earlier this year at the Cannes film market when Leafie was still in post-production.

As previously announced, the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival has also invited Na Hong-jin's hardcore thriller "The Yellow Sea". The film will be in the festival's Competition section. Starring Ha Jung-woo, "The Yellow Sea" recently won the Best Director Award at this year's PiFan.
