"April Snow" breaks record of "Windstruck" in Japan

The movie "April Snow", starring Bae Yong-joon, finally opened concurrently in 400 Japanese theaters on Sept. 17 amidst high expectations. From day one, the movie has been setting new records by drawing 150,000 viewers on the day of its premiere and taking in 350 million yen in ticket sales over the weekend, according to the movie's distributor, UIP.

The company also added that "April Snow" stands a good chance of breaking the 2 billion yen total box-office sales of the hit Korean movie "Windstruck" and grossing over 3 billion yen in total.

The movie's main theater, Hibiya Skaraja, was crowded with visitors on Sept. 19 when it put on display the hand printings of director Heo Jin-ho and actors Bae Yong-joon and Son Ye-jin, drawing the media spotlight.

Bae's fans queued in long lines to see their favorite actor star in a brand-new movie. Some of the visitors compared the size of Son's hand with their own, while others posed for cameras as if shaking hands with the actors' hand-printings and took photos of each other.
