Encore screening of 'Oldboy'

Seoul Selection bookshop said yesterday that it would screen director Park Chan-wook's "Oldboy" to celebrate the hit film's success at the 57th Cannes Film Festival, where it won the runner-up Grand Prize.

The encore screening will be held twice: Wednesday at 5 p.m. and June 5 at noon.

Based on a Japanese comic book, the film centers on the life of an ordinary, hard-drinking man who has been kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years by an unknown abductor.

"Oldboy" is the first Korean film to win the Cannes Grand Prize, conferred this year by a nine-member jury headed by American director Quentin Tarantino. The film already saw great success in Korea, attracting more than 3.3 million viewers since its release in November.

"Oldboy" is Park's second film to compete at an international film festival after "Joint Security Area: JSA" at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2000. Seoul Selection can be reached within a seven-minute walk of Anguk Station on Subway Line No. 3. Take Exit 1 and walk toward Gyeongbok Palace. For more information, contact (02) 734-9565.
