[HanCinema's Film Review] Korean Weekend Box Office (2011.05.06~2011.05.08)

Korean Weekend Box Office (2011.05-06~2011.05.08)

Kang Hyeong-cheol's "Sunny - 2010" steals number one in a very slow week at the theatres. It took just 209,124 admissions to claim the top spot this past weekend. Many families are taking advantage of the national holidays but taking to the cinema doesn't seem to be high on their lists.

Ducan Jones' action thriller "Source Code" is just behind "Sunny" with 186,751 admissions. Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga star in the story of a soldier who strangely discovers himself in another man's body and is on a mission to hunt down the Chicago train bomber. Despite suffering from mixed reviews, "Thor" has continued to entertain as it surpasses the million admissions mark. "The Apprehenders" made a huge jump from last weekend's eight to number four. Lim Chan-ik's first major film has a little over 300,000 tickets sold thus far and is likely to be humbled next week when the holiday madness calms down.

The action packed "Fast Five" has proven to be a record breaker as it continues its successful run. The Japanese anime film "Crayon Shon-chan: Super-Dimension! The Storm Called My Bride" is at number 6 with 37,915. And "Clash of the Families" is steadily moving down the charts at number 7. Visit HanCinema's blog section for the review on that one.

Another Japanese anime movie drops into eight. The children of Korea are definitely having a say in the charts this week and "Inazuma Eleven the Movie: Saikyou Gundan Ogre Shuurai" is one of their favourites. Again it has been a slow week as meek 13,716 admissions was enough to put it at number eight. "Suicide Forecast" has hit the million mark and is seriously running out of steam at nine. Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz star in "Water for Elephants" which is in at number ten.
