[HanCinema's News] Kim Boo-sun Denies Rumor That She's Running for National Assembly

On April 16th actress Kim Boo-sun addressed rumors that she would be running for political office in the Gyeyang district of Incheon on her YouTube channel. In the video, Kim Boo-sun noted how such rumors of actors running for higher office tend to come about every time one party loses power. But Kim Boo-sun confirmed in the strictest terms that she will not run for office.

According to Kim Boo-sun, the issue isn't that she's afraid of malicious comments, but just that the whole idea of running for office is too much for her. Kim Boo-sun stated that she was not a politician, and that the whole idea of her running as an unaffiliated candidate would inevitably invoke such disreputable ideas as money changing hands and character assassination. Kim Boo-sun also questioned the motives of any serious power broker who would even want her to run for office.

As Kim Boo-sun sees it, she would be a novice in politics, and has no interest in being used as a plaything for political controversy in subsequent elections. Kim Boo-sun also didn't like the idea that this would be how she would ultimately be remembered. Kim Boo-sun stated that she wanted her fans to always remember her as an actress, and not as a politician. Kim Boo-sun also expressed doubt for her own suitability to the role, noting her own relatively poor upbringing.

The last bit appeared to be at a snipe at the liberal party in South Korean politics that seems interested in recruiting Kim Boo-sun following their loss in the presidential election. They lost a close election in part because of the widespread belief that their lawmakers come from educated backgrounds with no real meaning of hardship. Kim Boo-sun last appeared in "The Dude in Me" back in 2019. She has no confirmed upcoming projects.
