Star actor Hyun Bin (real name Kim Tae Pyeong), who is now fulfilling his military obligation on Paekryeong Island as a soldier in the Marine Corps, could serve in the public relations department of the Marine Corps right before or after he is promoted to corporal. According to Shin Hak Yong -- who is a member of the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly -- on September 16, the headquarters of the Marine Corps has been considering changing Hyun Bin's position to the public relations office following the precedent of the singer, J.Lee. Hyun Bin enlisted in the Marine Corps last March and has been serving in a combat infantry troop located on Paekryeong Island.

Hyun Bin will participate in the "3rd Seoul Marathon" on September 25, and then he will participate in the basic Marine Corps training program for several months in the rear after leaving Paekryeong Island according to the rotation system in the Marine Corps.

In addition, Shin Hak Yong also pointed out that there are wide variations in taking reward vacations depending on the corps and individuals in the Marine Corps. According to the data submitted by the Ministry of National Defense, 72 percent of marines belonging to the corps located in Pohang took reward vacations in 2010, but only 13 percent of the marines on Paekryeong Island, to which Hyun Bin Belongs, took reward vacations during the same period, while 47 percent of the marines on Yeonpyeong Island took reward vacations. In addition, the polarization also exists among marines because only two percent of the marines among the 20,000 units on Yeonpyeong Island, which amounts to only 300 to 400 marines, took reward vacations more than three times.
