Jang Dong-gun in Bid for World Stardom at Cannes

Jang Dong-gun, who won last year's Blue Dragon Award for best leading actor, is set to catch the attention of major Hollywood distributors when he visits Cannes, France on May 12 to promote his film The Promise. Majors like Warner Brothers, Fox and DreamWorks will attend a promotional screening for overseas buyers at the film market running alongside the Cannes International Film Festival. The pan-Asian mega-budget production will be screened behind closed doors for a select 300 potential buyers on May 13 on the outskirts of Cannes -- indication of the advance heat the movie is generating.

Jang Dong-gun, director Chen Kaige (of "Farewell My Concubine" fame), Chinese actress Cecilia Cheung and Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada are looking to break the bounds of Asia and make the jump to world stardom.

Jang plans to stay on in Cannes for the three days and two nights of the festival, giving interviews and aggressively promoting his film.

The Promise is a co-production between Korea's Show East, China's China Film and the U.S'.s Moonstone Entertainment, and is a heroic fantasy of love, friendship and betrayal. The film is scheduled to open both in Korea and overseas in December.
