Korea's Kim So-yeon Shines at Venice Opening Gala

Korean actress Kim So-yeon brought a touch of Asian glamour to the opening ceremony of the Venice Film Festival. Kim, who plays the role of slave-girl Luzhu in "Seven Swords", the opening film of the festival, stepped on the red carpet on Wednesday along with director Hark Tsui, Charlie Yeung and other stars of the Hong Kong martial arts epic.

Journalists from around the world flocked to the preview despite the early hour (9:00 a.m. local time). Some 200 reporters conducted a fierce battle for coverage.

"As the only Korean actress in the film, I was really honored to be able to work with a world-famous director and actors, and I feel great about making it all the way to Venice", said Kim. "I hope that in the future, I might be able to meet you all again by appearing not just in Korean films but in films from other countries as well".

A total of 56 films were invited to the Venice Film Festival this year. Director Park Chan-wook's "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance", to be screened on Saturday, is the only Korean film in the competition. The closing ceremony is on Sept. 10.
