Korean Actor Jung Woo-sung Likely to Appear in "The Battle of Red Cliff" Film

Korean actor Jung Woo-sung has been approached by Hong Kong producer Terence Chang, a fellow Hong Kong producer-partner of director John Woo, about a role in Woo's upcoming film "Battle of Red Cliff", which stars Chow Yun-fat and Tony Leung Chiu-wai.

"I am still talking to Jung Woo-sung. He hasn't read the script and nothing is confirmed", Chang recently said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Jeong made his film debut in the 1994 movie "The Fox with Nine Tails" with Korean actress Ko So-young. He gained widespread acclaim in Kim Seong-su's 1997 film "Beat" where he played a high school student, who is forced into gang life.

His appearance in "The Battle of Red Cliff" won't be Jung's first time working with a Chinese actress. In 2001, he played a long-haired slave in Kim's "Musa" film, which also featured Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi and was well-received in Korea and overseas.

"The Battle of Red Cliff" is based on the events of the Three Kingdoms period – specifically, the Battle of Red Cliffs – and portrayed in the historical novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" by Luo Guanzhong, regarded as one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. Although the movie will be filmed in late 2007 or early 2008, a release date has not been determined but it is likely to be used to help promote the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
