Rape Charges Against Park Yoo-chun Dropped

Police in Gangnam said Monday they will drop rape charges against boy group member Park Yoo-chun since it would be impossible to prove coercion.

Police also said they have found evidence of blackmail by the first woman who accused Park of rape, as well as her boyfriend and another acquaintance. Their findings will be submitted to prosecutors this week.

A police spokesman said, "Park's DNA was found on the underwear of the first woman who accused him of rape, but that was not enough to prove there was coercion".

Police also said interviews with three other women who have stepped forward and also accused Park of rape did not yield any clear evidence of forced sex.

But police discovered evidence supporting Park's claim that he was blackmailed by the first accuser. Earlier, Park filed slander charges against the woman, her boyfriend and acquaintance, prompting police to slap them with a travel ban.

Police said they found financial records showing the transfer of a certain sum of money from the bank account of the head of Park's talent agency into the account of the woman.

Meanwhile, police are considering whether to charge the four women with slandering the singer. Park and some of the women may face punishment for prostitution and paying for sex.
