Second S.Korea-Russia Cultural Festival to Begin

South Korea will showcase the best of its traditional and modern performance arts--including traditional music, dance, puppet shows, movies and B-Boy musicals--for ten days beginning August 23 at numerous venues around Moscow, Russia, including the International Performance Arts Center.

This annual festival aims to enhance bilateral exchange and friendship between South Korea and Russia. The first festival, themed "Russian Night", took place in Seoul last year. The festival showcased a wide variety of Russia's cultural performances and fine arts including opera, pops, orchestras, plays, dance and art. This year's festival, titled '2007 Korea Festival' will introduce to the Russian audience a wide range of Korean arts and culture.

The festival will kick off on August 23 at the International Performance Arts Center in Moscow with a string ensemble performance by musicians from the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts. The opening celebration will also include a Korean Film Festival, an International Forum for the Enhancement of the Korean Cultural Wave and a dance performance entitled 'Korea Fantasy' by the National Dance Company of Korea.

The Korean Film Festival will introduce works by renowned South Korean film directors Im Kwon-taek, Hong Sang-soo and Lee Joon-ik. The National Dance Company of Korea plans to showcase a wide variety of Korean traditional dance while the wildly popular B-Boys plan to dazzle the Russian audience with a new musical. The Modern Puppet Show Company will also put on a show at the International Performance Arts Center.
