Seoul Independent Film Festival Opens

The 33rd Seoul Independent Film Festival will be held Nov. 22-30 at Indie Space. Living up to its slogan, "Other Films Also Possible", the festival will highlight non-mainstream movies.

More than 100 domestic and foreign films will be screened at the festival, with 51 of them competing in the final round. Eight films will receive awards worth a total of 51 million won.

One of the most noteworthy films this year are eight works by Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, especially his film "Tropical Malady", which won a jury prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.

Domestic filmmakers like Ryoo Seung-wan will also present their independent films. Ryoo's film "Modern People" will be screened in the form of a retrospective exhibition. The film won the top prize at the 25th Seoul Independent Film Festival.

Director Won Shin-yun will present his work "Bread and Milk".
