The Pusan International Film Festival secretariat said that The 2004 Jakarta International Film Festival opened on Dec. 3 in Indonesia, has prepared director Lee Chang-dong's three movies special screening.
His movies currently on show are three pictures such as "Oasis", 'Green Fish', and 'Peppermint Candy'. Director Lee took part in a seminar also regarding Korean movie industry on Dec. 6.
The Jakarta International Film Festival ends on Dec. 12.
Director Lee's three movies now on show
Before film making became more a part of his life, director Lee Chang-dong was a successful novelist.
Born in Taegu city and going on to study Korean literature and language at Kyungpuk National University where he graduated in 1980, getting his first novel Chonri published in 1983. He later went on to write scripts for "To the Starry Island" in 1993 and "A Single Spark".
In 1997 he made his directorial debut with "Green Fish" a story of a young man who falls in with the mafia. The film gained much talk and was immediatly snatched up by film festivals around the world, earning it much of a cult status.
Awards followed and Lee Chang-dong was soon recognised as a major talent. In 1999, he followed up his success with Green Fish in the much celebrated "Peppermint Candy". This recieved universal praise, bettering the response of his debut success.
The story of one man's downfall, starring Sol Kyung-gu and Moon So-ri was quickly becoming a favorite among critics who just couldn't wait to see what was next up his sleeve. Impressed by the performances of his lead players in "Peppermint Candy", Lee invited them back for his next feature - "Oasis".
The film was hugely successful at festivals and also took the top place upon it's release at the Korean box office. The film earned countless awards including 'best film' and 'best actress'.

Lee Chang-dong is one of those rare directors who so far has continually bettered his last film which makes his future projects all the more exciting. A particular fave at KCH - we're all looking forward to seeing what's next.
The Jakarta International Film screens award-winning films and cinematic masterpieces from all over the world, at specially selected cinemas in Jakarta.
Film buffs will also find seminars and discussions which provide an outlet for them to discuss the films and talk about cinematography in general.
The festival shows films over a period of approximately two weeks, in the month of November.
