"The Promise" Starring Jang Dong-gun to Be Shown in Cannes

The movie The Promise, directed by Chen Kaige and starring Jang Dong-gun, will be shown in Cannes, France, for the first time. According to the movie production company Showeast on May 10, selected scenes from The Promise, starring such top-rated Asian actors as Jang, Hiroyuki Sanada, Nicholas Tse, and Jang Baek-ji, will be shown for about 15 minutes at the 58th Cannes International Film Festival that kicks off on May 11.

Jang will meet with journalists from around the world on May 12, and that same evening will participate in a sales promotion party attended by film marketing and purchasing specialists, along with Sanada, Tse and Jang Baek-ji. The 15-minute excerpt from The Promise will be shown at the Chateau de la Napoule to the representatives of film distribution companies from various countries.

The Promise is a romantic story about the destined love of the legendary slave Kunlun (played by Jang Dong-gun) and the Chinese empress Kyungsung (played by Jang Baek-ji), and featuring general Kuangmin (played by Sanada). Showeast invested 10 percent of the total production cost of US$30 million. The Promise, which took three years to finish, will open in December concurrently in China and Korea.
