This Week's New Movies

As for what's playing in movie theatres throughout Korea this week.
Two new Korean films are out this week, and both of them are about fighting.
There are also new releases from the U.S. and Britain.

First up is the Korean gangster film "Righteous Ties", which has topped this week's online ticket sales.
Audiences are curious over how actors Jung Jae-young and Jung Joon-ho digest their tough characters.
Set in Korea's southwestern region, the story revolves around a betrayed gangster who plots his revenge, and shows the strong ties of friendship between men.
The deadliest killer in the region goes to jail to protect his gang, but finds out that he's been betrayed.
He persuades his cellmate to help him Break Out of prison.
The other main character is entangled between his long-time friend, and the gang that abandoned his friend.
The film is the sixth by director Jang Jin, who says he wanted to challenge the preconception that gangster films are boring.

Next is the Korean actioner "Gangster High".
This violence-packed feature is about youth friendship, love, and dreams, and shows that high schoolers have no regrets in life.
Directed by Park Ki-hyeong, the film revolves around high school student Sang-ho, and his four friends.
They organize a soccer team but are accidentally drawn into a fight with a tough guy at a neighboring school.
As a result, the team is labeled a violent gang.

The bestselling video game series "Dead or Alive" has finally received a movie adaptation.
The action adventure piece is the work of Hong Kong action director Corey Yuen and stars Devon Aoki, Jaime Pressly, and Holly Valance.
The story centers around four female fighters who start as rivals, but eventually team up against another force during a martial arts contest on an island.

From Hollywood comes "A Prairie Home Companion" based on a live variety show on radio.
Big name stars such as Kevin Kline, Meryl Streep, Woody Harrelson and Tommy Lee Jones star in this comedy that's full of laughter and emotion.
The film is a fictional depiction of behind-the-scenes activities on a long-running radio show that is unexpectedly canceled.
