Will Smith tipped to star in 'Oldboy'

Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are discussing to collaborate on a remake of "Oldboy" by Park Chan-wook, U.S. magazine Variety reported over the weekend.

Dreamworks is currently in the process of securing the remake rights for the movie, and Universal Pictures is likely to be in charge of distribution, it said.

Spielberg had reportedly been searching for a film to make with Smith. If the deal comes through, Smith is likely to play the lead role in the movie, Variety reported.

The movie, released in 2003, is about a man who is kidnapped and held in a cell for 15 years without explanation. He is suddenly let loose, and fed clues which allow him to find his mystery captor and seek revenge. Variety said Spielberg is looking for a writer to begin the development process.
