The trend in 2021 was online video service (OTT). Due to the spread of COVID-19, more and more people started looking for works in their home turf instead of visiting theaters and works that secured ingenious stories and solid casts centered in domestic and international OTT have gained huge popularity.

YTN Star selected works that received good responses this year and actors who showed outstanding performances in December. Among the top six works, most are presented on OTT platforms and they are, "Hellbound", "Happiness - Drama", "D.P" and "Squid Game".
The best male and female actors were also naturally selected for their good performances this year. Examples include actors Yoo Ah-in, Jo Woo-jin, Koo Kyo-hwan, Kim Shin-rok and Jung Ho-yeon. Here are some of YTN Star's best dramas and stars of 2021.
Jo Woo-jin went from "HARD HIT" to "Happiness - Drama" this year. In "Happiness - Drama", he played lieutenant Han Tae-seok who carried the duty of finding out the cause of the madness and preventing the spread, showing solid acting skills by leading the tense development.
Who else could have played Jeong Jin-soo in "Hellbound" better than Yoo Ah-in? The actor played the leader of a religious cult called Saejinri, showing unrivaled aura. Apparently, he memorized two A4 paper sized lines by heart and managed to score the scene with Yang Ik-joon in just one take which is unbelievable.
It's no overstatement to say that tvN "Mouse" was all about Lee Hee-jun. His performance stood out that much. He played detective Go Moo-chi who would do illegal investigations to catch a criminal. His acting appeared natural and he accumulated into his character, adding reality to the work which could have seemed rather dramatic. In addition, he played with all kinds of emotions freely, added to the viewing taste of the work.
Many people laughed and cried over Deok-cheol who started ballet at the age of seventy. Park In-hwan proved his 56 years of experience through the tvN drama "Navillera". His challenge to ballet while sweating in a tight ballet suit awoke everyone's dreams. His excitement-filled expression as he took one step at a time toward his dream and his face with the passage of time left an indelible impression on many viewers.
Lee Je-hoon was recently reborn as a film director through the "Unframed" project. However, this year, he also played a satisfactory role in his main job. In the first half of this year he met viewers with SBS drama "Taxi Driver" and Netflix series "Move to Heaven" showing stable acting skills.
Koo Kyo-hwan proved to be a popular actor by showing his face continuously in Netflix dramas "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" and "D.P", which surpassed 3.68 million viewers this year, setting the highest box office record for Korean films.
