`Fighter' Blows by Opponents at Box Office

The local film "Paramui Paito (Fighter in the Wind)" came out swinging on its opening weekend and topped the box office.

The film, based on the life of Choi Bae-dal, a martial arts legend who became the best fighter in Japan in the 1940s and '50s, was seen by 193,000 viewers in Seoul over Saturday and Sunday, according to the film's distributor Generation Blue Film. The film was seen by 703,000 nationwide.

It was the second consecutive week that a local film came out on top at the box office. The Romantic Comedy "Sinbu Suop (Love, So Divine)" was the big winner the previous weekend.

Second place was taken by "Sisily 2 km", the horror comedy starring Lim Chang-jong, with 109,000 in Seoul, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The American sci-fi film "Chronicles of Riddick", starring Van Diesel, came in third with 73,000 in Seoul and 231,000 overall. It was followed by Will Smith's futuristic action film "I, Robot" and "Love, So Divine" at fourth and fifth, respectively. The local horror film "Bunshinsaba" placed sixth.
