`Lady Vengeance' Gets Love From Venice Film Festival

The screening schedule of 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance'(directed by Park Chan-wook, produced by Moho Film), which has been invited to compete at the 62nd Venice International Film Festival, is fixed.

The President of the Venice Biennale, Davide Croff, and the Director of the Venice Film Festival, Marco Muller, announced the line-up of the festival that runs August 31 to September 10.

The program is divided into 4 main sections Venice 62 - In Competition, Out of Competition, Horizons (new trends in cinema), and Corto Cortissimo (short films not longer than 30 minutes).

Director Park Chan-wook and the actress Lee Young-ae will visit Lido in Venice, Italy to make their way onto the red carpet on September 3.

The movie is the final installment in Park's revenge-themed trilogy and stars Lee Young-ae in the lead role.

Starting with the opening ceremony on August 31, the films listed in 'In Competition' include 'Goodnight and Good Luck' of George Clooney, 'Mary Abel' of Ferrara, 'The Brothers Grimm' of Terry Gilliam and 'Brokeback Mountain' of Ang Lee that arouse international interests.

On top of that, competition among scriptwriters such as Stanley Kwan, John Turturro and Patrice Chereau will also be fierce.

According to one of the programmers of the film festival who visited Korea to see the edited version of 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' praised by saying, "This is the best master piece among the Korean films I?ve ever seen this year". The organizing committee also assessed the film mentioning, "it is beautiful. Comparing to the previous one, another unique structure of the story delivers very strong message".

While director Park competes to win the Golden Lion award, actress Lee will be in competition with Gwyneth Paltrow (Proof), Susan Sarandon (Romance and Cigarette), Isabelle Huppert (Gabrielle), Juliette Binoche (Mary) and Monica Bellucci (The Brothers Grimm).

The world premiere of "Qi Jian" (Seven Swords), a new and highly anticipated film by Tsui Hark, will be the opening event of the Film Festival. "Casanova" will be the featured film for the gala evening on Saturday, September 3.
