`Windstruck' Breezes by Competition

The domestic Romantic Comedy "Nae Yojachingu-rul Sogaehapnida (Windstruck)" toppled its Hollywood competitors and came out the big winner at the weekend box office.

The heavily-promoted film, starring Jun Ji-hyun as a policewoman who falls in love with a teacher, played by Jang Hyuk, brought in 540,000 viewers over the weekend and 861,000 viewers in the four days since its opening on June 3.

"The Day After Tomorrow", a Hollywood film about an Ice Age that takes over the northern half of the world, came in second with 468,000 viewers over the weekend nationwide. "Troy", the retelling of Homer's mythic tale starring Brad Pitt, dropped to third after topping the local box office for the previous two weeks. The film was seen by 388,000 on Saturday and Sunday.

"Windstruck" also opened simultaneously in Hong Kong and made some $79,550 (92 million won) on its opening day, a record for a local work, and reached over $380,000 in four days. The film is screening with English subtitles at 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 8:40 p.m. on weekends at Cine Core theater in downtown Seoul.
