A South Korean movie has been invited to be the closing film for the upcoming Hawaii International Film Festival, the film's local distributor said Tuesday.
"71-Into the Fire", released in theaters nationwide Wednesday, is based on a true story about boy soldiers who perished during the Korean War (1950-53). The film coincides with the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the inter-Korean conflict on June 25.
The film will grace the closing ceremony of the 30th edition of the American film event, which will be held from Oct. 14 to 22.

Director John H. Lee and the four lead actors _ Choi Seung-hyun, also known as T.O.P of pop group Big Bang, hallyu star kwon Sang-woo, model-turned-actor Cha Seung-won and popular TV star Kim Seung-woo _ plan to attend the festival. They are slated to appear on the red carpet for the film's official screening on the last day, Oct. 22.
"Such an honor as closing the international film event was possible, even before its nationwide theatrical release, because it attracted attention both near and far, through a screening at Stanford University in the United States and through a local preview for foreign press", said the film's publicist.

"Stanford chose to do a screening of `71-Into the Fire' because it attracted the organizers' interest with its story commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Korean War… Screenings such as this one at Stanford will bring the film a lot of buzz, in the U.S. and internationally, as a noteworthy foreign film. It could also lead to invitations to various film festivals", said http://www.seoulbeats.com about the event.
