Movie '3-Iron' has broken through box-office income $500,000 in Italy as the movie is gaining a good assessment from the Italian audience.
Since director Kim Ki-duk's '3-Iron' has been released in 11 theaters throughout the Italian continent on past Dec. 3, last year, the movie appeared to have earned a total of $566,291 (approximately 590 million won) during 5 weeks up to Jan. 2, this year.
As 'Bin Jip' amplifies the movie's screening theaters over 20 since its release third week, the movie is garnering steadily an audience.
The original premise presents Tae-suk, a young man who basically spends his life breaking into peoples homes and occupies them for a night and then leaves. but the unexpected happens when he enters a mansion and finds a sad-looking woman there.
After confronting his abusive and aggressive husband, they decide to run away together. The objective of this film is not very clear until the second half, in which our protagonists go through some trouble: it ends up becoming a bit freaky but overall it's solid, if unbelievable.
The english name of the movie, "3-Iron", is a reference to a golf club, an object with has a remarkable role in the story. It's a very quiet movie, in which silence is the main star (the protagonists do not talk, at all).
It's the story of an almost unnoticeable man, an anonymous shadow, who ends up becoming invisible. The movie, as the other Kim Ki-duk films, moves at a very slow pace.
Thanks to its innovative plot, the film manages to be constantly engrossing, in part also due to Kim Ki-duk's relaxed direction. Athough it is ultimately not convincing, the characters are mysteriously attractive.
The acting is notable, specially Lee Seung-yeon as the woman, in a surprisngly tender performance. The cinematography is splendid as well, and even the soundtrack is effective and helps the film's atmosphere.
Overall, "3-Iron" (which, by the way, won the main prize at the Valladolid film festival) is a captivating and symbolic movie which is not for the impatient but offers an unconventional and rather beautiful love story.
