'Bollywood', 'Blind' Among Big Names at PiFan Film Fest

A documentary highlighting Bollywood's colorful history will inaugurate the 15th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival on July 14, which this year runs under the banner of love, fantasy and adventure.

The 11-day festival in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province will feature 221 films from 34 countries, but few are expected to match the pure extravagance of "Bollywood: The Greatest Love Story Ever Told", which is co-directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Jeff Zimbalist. Ahn Sang-hoon's highly anticipated thriller "Blind" will be the last movie screened before the curtain falls later in the month.

According to organizers, this year's festival will cover a wider spread of entries from countries formerly considered filmmaking minnows in the Asian region.

"The number of entries has increased from all over Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Mongolia, as well as traditional genre film powerhouses like Japan and Hong Kong", said PiFan programmer Park Jin-hyung.

"Rather than investing in big budgets, SF films hinge on novel imagination, and a new trend is being observed in terms of their geographical coverage".

Tickets for the festival will be made available at www.pifan.com from 2 p.m. on Thursday. Night screenings are the most expensive, at W12,000 per ticket, while regular daytime tickets will cost W5,000 (US$1=W1,084). Visitors must shell out W10,000 for 3D screenings, as well as for the headline movie and for "Blind".
