'Dooly' Korea's Most Loved Cartoon Character

Korea's most popular and favorite cartoon character is "Dooly", according to the results of a survey by the Korea Culture and Content Agency announced on Wednesday.

When asked about the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about cartoon characters, some 30.9 percent of the respondents cited Dooly. Mickey and Minnie Mouse came second with 19.7 percent, followed by Kitty with 16.7 percent, the Japanese character Jjanggu with 15 percent and the Korean character Mashimaro with 12.7 percent.

In terms of preference, Dooly also took first place with 9.7 percent. Some 6.5 percent said they liked Jjanggu, 6.3 percent Mickey and Minnie Mouse, 6.2 percent Kitty, 4.2 percent Pooh and 3.7 percent Mishimaro.

In the Top 10 were four Korean characters--Dooly, Mishimaro, Hodolli, and Pucca--and four American and two Japanese characters.

The survey was conducted over the phone on 1,000 people aged 10 to 49 in five major cities, including Seoul and Busan, from Mar. 3 to 23, 2006.
