'Empress Chung' is selected as Korea's next-generation animation

'Empress Chung' which was selected as Korea's next-generation animation by a worldwide movie special Internet site 'Aint it Cool'.
A worldwide movie special Internet site 'Aint it Cool' has introduced 'Empress Chung', a North-South joint production animation, as Korea's next-generation animation.

In its Internet-version article on July 15, the site expressed that 'Empress Chung's visual is stunning and its character also is attractive, comparing 'Empress Chung' with animation 'Wonderful Days'.

In comparison to 'Wonderful Days' based on especially legend, this site said that 'Empress Chung' is presenting more attractive story and character.

Animation 'Empress Chung' is slated to be released at the same time in the South and the North of Korea after it is presented in South Korea on August 12 first.

The film will hit about 60 screens in South Korea and another six in the North on Aug. 15, Korea's Liberation Day -- which celebrates Korea gaining independence from Japan in 1945.

'Empress Chung' directed by Nelson Shin, is an animation completed with production costs of 7 billion won and after its prepartion period of seven years.

This animation is a sumptuous animated adaptation of a Korean folktale and narrative musical 'Shim Chung Jeon'. Empress Chung is the subtle and beautifully crafted fairy story of a hidden Empress, whose struggle through life is helped along by her encourage of animal friends.

She attempts to sacrifice herself to save her father's eyesight, yet re-emerges from her submarine palace to find her wishes fulfilled.

"Empress Chung", won a special distinction prize at the Annecy Animation Festival in 2004 and the top prize at the Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival that same year.
