Jessica Jung to Star in Musical

Jessica Jung, a member of Girls' Generation, one of South Korea's top pop groups, will star in the Korean adaptation of the Broadway musical "Legally Blond" in Seoul this November.

The 20-year-old Korean-American, who made her debut with Girls' Generation in 2007, has been picked to play the role of Elle Woods, the heroine.

An official from PMC Production, the musical's producer, was quoted as saying, "Jessica Jung has a strong aspiration for musicals. Her liveliness and singing capabilities were the crucial factors behind our casting of her".

Along with Jessica Jung, Lee Hanee, the 2007 Miss Universe third runner-up, and actress Kim Ji-woo were also cast for the role of Elle Woods, with the trio alternately playing the part.

Actor Kim Dong-wook from "Take Off", a recent hit film, will play the role of Emmett Forrest, the protagonist.

"Legally Blonde" is a musical based on an Amanda Brown novel and 2001 film of the same name. After a pre-Broadway tryout in San Francisco, the musical opened on Broadway on April 29, 2007, to mostly positive reviews. The musical was recorded for MTV in September 2007 and aired in October 2007.

South Korea will become the first country in Asia to feature the musical.
