The movie, starring singer Lee Jung-hyun, is set to be released in Korea in November. It tells the story of a troubled teenager who has been raised in a reformatory and is reunited with his mother after 13 years.

A total of 15 films will vie for top honors in the competition at the festival, the most prestigious of its kind in Asia. "Juvenile Offender" is one of eight films that will have their Asian premieres there.

This is the first time in six years that a Korean film is competing at the festival since Hong Sang-soo's "Woman on the Beach" did so in 2006.
