'Love So Divine' Tops Local Box Office

2004/08/10 | 187 views | Permalink | Source

"Love So Divine", the local romantic comedy that tells of a relationship between a student of priesthood and a young woman, took the top spot at the weekend box office.
It is the fist time since the weekend of June 5 that a domestic film has taken the No. 1 spot at the box office, according to Yonhap News Agency. In the past nine weeks, Hollywood blockbusters like "The Day After Tomorrow", "Shrek 2", "Spider-Man 2" and "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" have dominated the local market.

"Love So Divine", which stars popular actor Kwon Sang-woo and actress Ha Ji-won, was seen by 86,234 Seoul moviegoers over Saturday and Sunday, according to the film's distributor Korea Pictures.

"I, Robot", the sci-fi film starring Will Smith and the previous week's top movie, and the local horror film "Bunshinsaba" tied for second place with 72,000 viewers in Seoul.

"I, Robot" has been seen by over 1.2 million nationwide since opening July 30, while "Bunshinsaba" has been viewed by 455,000 in four days since opening the same day.

"Van Helsing", which tied with "I, Robot" for first place last week, dropped to fourth with 65,000 in Seoul. The film, starring Hugh Jackman as a monster hunter who takes on vampires, werewolves and other creatures, brought in over 1.3 million viewers in 10 days since opening July 30.

"Faceless Beauty", the local psychological thriller that marked the return of actress Kim Hye-soo to screen after 2 years, debuted at fifth place with 51,700, a respectable number given the limited number of theaters playing the film.

The local sex comedy "Nuguna Pimilun Itda (Everybody has Secrets)" and the high school romance "Temptation of Wolves" followed at sixth and seventh, respectively.
