'Low Life' Invited to Venice Film Festival for Competition

Veteran movie director Im Gweon-taek's "Low Life" (Korean: Haryu Insaeng) has its eyes fixed on the Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion for best film.
Taehung Pictures announced that the administrative committee of the Venice International Film Festival invited Im's movie to compete in "Venezia 61", its 61st film festival that is to begin on Sep. 1, 2004.
Im made it to the Cannes Film Festival for the first time representing Korea with his 97th movie "Chunhyang" in 2000 and won the Best Director prize at Cannes with his 98th movie "Chihwaseon" in 2002. With his 99th movie "Low Life" competing in Venice, Im has made it to two of "Big Three" international film festivals three times.
Im's appearance in the Venice Film Festival this year would be his second time. It was in 1987 when Im first advanced to the Venice Film Festival with his movie "The Surrogate Woman" (Korean: Sshi bachi) which successfully led to leading actress Kang Soo-yeon winning the best actress award.
Making its screen debut in Korea on May 21, "Low Life" is about a man who transforms himself to survive the changing times during the 1950s',60s and '70s.
