'My sassy girl' remade in Japan with Kusanagi Tsuyoshi as the leading character

Cha Tae-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun's 'My Sassy Girl' (2001) is remade in Japan. Japan's popular idol group, SMAP's member Kusanagi Tsuyoshi takes Cha Tae-hyun's role while Tanaka Rena takes Jun Ji-hyun's part. The remake of 'My Sassy Girl' will be on air next April on TBS.

The Nikan Sport Newspaper reported that the shooting have already started at the beginning of December and Kusanagi Tsuyoshi is very motivated as this is his chance to gain popularity over Korean fans.

According to the Sankaitz Sport Newspaper, the love story, characterisation and the context of the two main characters will remain the same as the original. However, unlike the movie, where the characters were university students, in the drama, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi acts as Marine Biology professor and Tanaka Rena acts as student novelist.

Ever since 'My Sassy Girl' was released in Japan, various Japanese TV broadcasting stations proposed remake of the film into a drama but all faced various difficulties in making final agreement. However, last spring, TBS made the reproposal with Kusanagi Tsuyoshi as the main cast and finally success in signing the contract. According to the Sankaitz Sport Newspaper, 'My Sassy Girl's producer showed high expectation toward the drama, saying the lowest viewing rate will be at least 20%.

Other casts include Matsushita Nao and Tanihara Akira Tatsku and the script was written by Sakamoto Yuji, who wrote drama "Tokyo Love story".
