'My Sassy Girl' to be adapted for drama

Director Kwak Jae-yong's hit film "My Sassy Girl" will be made into a TV series in China. Korea, China and Japan will have their hand in producing the drama.

With production cost of 36 billion won, the drama will begin filming in early September and will air in China next year.

The Korean game maker Game Jedi is also planning to make the movie into an online game by next year.

"My Sassy Girl", based on an Internet novel, was a huge hit in Korea when it was released in 2001. The film also garnered rave reviews in China and Japan, largely due to actress Jun Ji-hyun, who plays the attractive heroine.

Last week, Korea's K1 Film and China's Shanghai Movie & Art Institute held an audition for the lead female role. Twelve actresses are in the running for the part.
