'Oldboy': 'An Audience Award' at the Stockholm 15th International Film Festival

The 15th Stockholm International Film Festival's official website said that director Park Chan Wook's movie 'Oldboy' has come to receive 'An Audience Award'.

According to the Film Festival's official website, 'Oldboy' has occupied 'An Audience Award' thanks to hot response the audience in the Stockholm 15th International Festival which was held from Nov. 15 through Nov. 28.

The Stockholm International Film Festival is the leading competitive film festival in northern Europe and continues to manifest itself as a groundbreaking event. From the start its purpose has been to launch young filmmakers and broaden the forum for innovative quality films in Scandinavia.

The Organizing Committee of the Film Festival noted, "Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 1999 the festival has evolved from a dynamic newcomer to a full-grown supporter of the men and women that want to show us something new and different on the screen. We want to find out what's next we want to look into the future".

The Film Festival film sections give proof of great width, presenting films from a vast geographic spectra: from upcoming American independent stories to the visions of the Nordic and Baltic countries and the images of Asia.

However, the focus remains on first time filmmakers, not least manifested in the festival's scholarship 1 Kilometre Film supporting young Swedish directors.

The Organizing Committee also said that we are also deeply fond of the cinematic traditions - Elia Kazan, Gena Rowlands, Roman Polanski and Lauren Bacall are among those we have payed tribute to with retrospectives as well as the prestigious Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award.

Among other distinguished guests of the festival were Dennis Hopper, Quentin Tarantino, Joel & Ethan Coen, Lars von Trier, Rod Steiger, Roger Corman, Ang Lee, Frances MacDormand, Alexandr Sokurov, Paul Morrisey and Aki Kaurism?ki.
