The film made history on Sunday by becoming the first non-English-language film to win the Oscar for best picture and three other top awards -- best director, best original screenplay and best international feature film.

The black comedy earned nearly 1.4 million pounds in the U.K. in the opening weekend from Feb. 7 to 9, a British record for a non-English-language movie.

"Parasite" fever remains in full swing in the U.S. as well. The film topped Amazon's best-sellers list in the Movies and TV category. According to U.S. movie ticket-tracking website Box Office Mojo, its ranking at the North American box office rose from 12th to fourth just a day after it won the Oscars.

The film's distributor in North America, Neon, plans to increase showings of "Parasite" to some 2,000 cinema screens by the weekend.

The film has been also drawing a horde of moviegoers in other countries including France, Italy, Mexico, Spain and Russia.
