'Stoker' Scores Best US Weekend Debut

Anchor: South Korean director Park Chan-wook's Hollywood debut movie "Stoker" had a solid debut weekend in U.S. theaters, topping the box office in average sales per screen. Jang Souie has more on the high-profile new release.

Report: Box office reporting service Box Office Mojo said Park Chan-wook's "Stoker" grossed 160-thousand-547 dollars during its weekend debut in seven U.S. theaters from Los Angeles to New York.

The film's average sales per theater recorded nearly 23-thousand dollars, the largest average among all specialty releases over the weekend.

Stoker earned roughly three times the per-screen-average of overall box-office topper "Jack the Giant Slayer", which drew seven-thousand-717 dollars per screen.

Stoker's investor and distributor 21st Century Fox projects the film will hit more screens this weekend based on the roll-out method, under which the number of screens a movie is shown on increases based on its popularity.

Park's latest film was released in South Korea a day ahead of the U.S. on February 28th, attracting over 259-thousand people and raking in nearly two billion won in sales during the first five days of its release.
