'The Host 2' with the application of Korean technology is set to open in 2011

Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA, President & CEO: Lee Jae-woong) has selected 'The Host 2' co-produced by MACROGRAPH and Chungeoram as the recipient of 'Global Project for Technological Development 2009'.
As part of the project conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea for R&D on CT (Culture & Technology), the global project is to provide technological support on a large scale to visual content which appeals globally.
'The Host 2', a sequence to "The Host" (Gwoemul) of 2006 (director: Bong Joon-ho), follows the accident in 2000 of toxic chemicals being dumped into Han River and the birth of monster in 2006. Backed by the popularity The Host enjoyed, the sequel is expected to garner popularity both in North America and the traditional creature movie market. Judges valued high the fact that Gwoemul, or monster, which was made based on overseas technological power, is embodied by local technological prowess in 'The Host 2'.
Responsible for CG and special effects for the movie is MACROGRAPH, a prominent Korean digital arts company which dealt with local films such as 'The Restless', 'Hanbando', 'For Horowitz', etc. And it was the first Korean studio which was in charge of visual effects of a Hollywood movie, 'Forbidden Kingdom' in 2008. As a specialized production and distribution company for Korean movies, Chungeoram has produced "The Host", 'The President Barber', and 'A Tale of Two Sisters'.
"We are confident that a test conducted with MACROGRAPF showed that the monster featured in 'The Host 2' is made by local technological power. Accordingly, more delicate and stronger monster is expected to be created in the sequel", said Choi Yong-bae, representative of Chungeoram.
In this project, a studio for special effects is built to shoot and do trials on subjects such as the reptiles under various conditions so as to express the skin of digital creature as real as possible. Also produced and developed are controllers and technologies to apply various textures taken from captured image to those monster creatures.
Efficient pipeline has also been developed to reduce time and costs.
Expression of hyper real texture determines the quality of image. 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' has won Academy Award for virtual effect in 2009.
"I expect that through this project the quality of film and efficiency of production will be improved so much so that they will be comparable to those of foreign films", Na Moon-sung, director of Culture and Technology Team at KOCCA, "and the project will be an opportunity to promote the quality of CG industry of Korea'."
