'Titanic' Theme Voted Korea's Top Movie Song

"My Heart Will Go On", the theme song to "Titanic", was chosen as the top movie song in Korea, according to a new poll released yesterday.

The cable movie channel OCN, along with the portal site Naver and cable music channel MTV Korea, surveyed 18,366 people from June 7 to 30 to compile a list of 100 favorite movie songs of Koreans.

A total of 41,327 votes were cast, with each person allowed to vote for five different songs.

"My Heart Will Go On", sung by Celine Dion for the blockbuster 1997 film, received the most votes with 3,955, or 9.5 percent of the total votes.

"Moon River", from the 1961 film "Breakfast at Tiffany's" came in second with 4.7 percent of the votes, followed by two tracks from the film "Cinema Paradiso" _ "Love Theme" and "Cinema Paradiso" _ at third and fourth, respectively.

At fifth place, "Mido's Theme" from the film "Oldboy" was the highest-ranking song from a Korean film. It was followed by "Can't Fight the Moonlight" from "Coyote Ugly" and "When I Dream" from "Shiri".

Of the 100 songs on the list, 18 were Korean songs and another eight were foreign songs from soundtracks to Korean films. Among the Korean songs were tracks from the films "The Classic", "My Sassy Girl" and "Il Mare".

The films "Cinema Paradiso" and "Love, Actually" had three songs each on the list, while "The Classic", "Love Affair", "The Mission" and "Chungking Express" were among the films with two songs on the list.

This is the fourth poll conducted by OCN on the preferences of local moviegoers. The movie channel also polled to find out Koreans' favorite film ("Shiri"), favorite actor (Song Kang-ho) and favorite director (Kang Je-gyu).
