1 in 3 Workers to Go on Summer Holiday Abroad

Korean workers are likely to spend an average of W1 million on their summer vacation this year (US$1=W1,183).

Job search portal Saramin surveyed 1,744 salaried workers about their summer holiday plans, and 76 percent said they will take time off from work to travel.

Those who will spend their holiday in Korea expect to spend W540,000, while workers who will go abroad expect to spend W1.92 million, bringing the average to W980,000.

Some 32 percent plan to go on holiday abroad, with the most popular destination being Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and Vietnam (41 percent), followed by China, Japan and Europe.

The most popular vacation dates are between July 28 and Aug. 3 selected by 20 percent, followed by the first week of August (16 percent) and the second week of August (11 percent).

Thirty-five percent plan to take three days off, 15 percent four days, 17 percent five days, and five percent seven days.
