True to his nickname Phoenix, Park Hyun-sung has overcome many ordeals in his turbulent life ― the former boxer was jailed several times and even once set himself on fire in a suicide attempt.

After a long rough journey, he is now running a small women's boxing team with the dream of molding its members into champions in the 2012 Olympic Games.

His unwavering dedication has been acknowledged by a social contribution program, the "Keep Walking Fund" organized by Diageo Korea. Park, 42, is among the 10 contenders who made it to the final round in the contest.

Of the 10 contenders picked among more than 100 applicants, five will be selected as the final winners. The fund with a pool of 500 million won ($445,000) will provide each of the winners a certain amount of money for two years to help them achieve their dreams.

"When I was young, my dream was to become a world boxing champion. But I realized that all the paths that I have taken so far were meant to lead me to this coaching job", Park said. "My dream now is to help my four `pupils' win gold medals in the 2012 London Olympics".

Other final contenders include traveler and photographer Kim Hyung-wook, 30, who is building small libraries in remote villages in Nepal, India and other poor nations.

He aims to build 1,000 libraries over the next 10 years around the world.

Park Jeong-kyu travels on a bicycle. He attempted to ride around-the-world with only 2.3 million won, and traveled 27,000 kilometers in 1,055 days. He now dreams to continue his travels accompanied by other riders.

Lee Jin-hyuk, an office worker, hopes to become a documentary director and shed light on the undocumented lives of the socially weak.

Among others are Kwon Yong-beom, who has battled cancer and aims to become a singer/songwriter; Kim Jeong-neon, a member of KORA, a fraternity at Kookmin University that manufactures automobiles; Shin Woo-seok, an indie film producer; Jo June, a photographer who takes pictures of mountains; and Song Byung-hun, a game developer.

The 10 contenders will publicize their dream plans through the program's home page at http:///www.keepwalking.co.kr . A panel of five judges will decide on the five winners and announce the results on the Web site on Feb. 25.

It is the first time that Diageo Korea has hosted the program domestically. Taken from the famous catchphrase "Keep Walking" from the company's whisky brand Johnnie Walker, the program is designed to inspire and encourage those who endlessly aspire to achieve their dreams.
