10 Korean Animations Invited to Annecy Festival

The Seoul Animation Center said Wednesday that 10 Korean animations will compete in five categories at the 2006 Annecy Animated Film Festival to open on June 5.

The invited works include "Tree Robo" by Kim Moon-saeng et al. in the short films category, "Pororo, the Little Penguin 'Don't Do That'" by Lim Joon-seook in TV series, and "The Birds & The Bees - A Secret You Shouldn't Keep" by Kwak Young-jin et al. in educational films.

Nominated in the advertising films category are MTV's "Space Monster 2" and "Space Monster 3" by Cho Se-heon et al. and MTV's "Do the Right Thing 'Cheating', 'A Girl'" by Kwon Kee-jung. In graduation films, four Korean animations have been nominated -- "Beautiful Dreamer" by Han Jung-nyeong, "Taste" by Lim Dana et al., "Walking in the Rainy Day" by Choi Hyun-myung, and "A Dialog" by Kim Ji-hyun et al.

The Annecy festival is the world's most prestigious animation festival and is considered the "Canne festival" for animated films. Two Korean feature films have received the grand prix at the festival -- "My Beautiful Girl, Mary" by Lee Seong-gang in 2002 and "Oseam" by Seong Baek-yeob in 2004.
