Eighteen-year-olds can vote for the first time in Korean history in the general election next week as the country falls in line with international practice.

The vote for those born on or before April 16, 2002 is expected to boost the younger generation's political clout in their communities.

To prevent the politicization of classrooms and better guide young voters, the National Election Commission initially planned to visit high schools to educate voters ahead of the election.

But the plan had to be shelved due to the coronavirus epidemic. Instead, they made videos on the voting process to provide students with needed information. The Education Ministry also shares election guidelines on the NEC's website.
