1st DMZ Documentary Film Festival Opened

The DMZ Documentary Film Festival - the first of its kind in Korea - will open in Paju Book City on October 22.

The opening ceremony for this event will be held on the outdoor stage, in front of Ichae Shopping Mall, with participation of celebrities including Park Ye-jin, Bae Soo-bin, Lee Young-ja, Jang Hyun-sung, Kim Ji-soo, Kim Young-chul, Yoon Kye-sang, Cha Soo-yeon, and Choo Sang-mi and her husband. The event is emceed by Kim Je-dong.

Yoon Do-hyun, the festival's PR ambassador; actress Lee In-hye; and 4th-grade student Kim Gwan-yoo, who lives in Daeseongdong Village, located inside the DMZ, will also attend the opening ceremony. Gangsane Band will perform a live set in honor of this occasion, as well.
Produced by the martial arts director Jung Doo-hong, who is also a member of the Festival Organizing Committee, White Wild Goose is performed by ballerina Yang Inko only for this festival.
The opening film Heart of Jenin is the story of Ahmed and his father. Ahmed is a Palestinian boy who was killed by Israeli soldiers. In an inspiring turn of events, Ahmed's father donates his son's organs to save the life of 6 Israeli children a mere 12 hours after his personal tragedy. The film will be screened at Cinus Ichae at 8:30PM on October 22 (Tickets: KRW 5,000).

Before the opening ceremony, the disbanding ceremony of the DMZ Docs Peace Walk Corps will take place in Pyeonghwa Nuri Park to mark the end of the 5 day-long, 155-mile DMZ walk. This event will be attended by Yu In-yeong and Eva and participants will build a Reunification Wishing Stone Mound to commemorate the significance of the walk.

The DMZ Documentary Film Festival kicks off with the disbanding and opening ceremonies. The festival will take place in the vicinity of the DMZ and Paju Book City from October 22 to October 26. Details can be found on the festival's official website (Open the link).
