1st International Culture & Content Fair

Music, films, animation, games and IT have come under one roof.
The venue is the International Culture and Content Fair that began earlier this week.
It's the first time Korea has hosted such a comprehensive event.
The goal is to promote the growth such industries, give them lots of publicity and hopefully maintain interest both in Korea and abroad in popular Korean culture and the products that are made using them.

"Under the slogan 'Upgrade your culture' the 11-day event has been organized to cover a wide variety of exhibitions, international conferences and animation screenings".

By far the most popular of the 24 different programs being offered is the one on "cultural technology".
That term refers to high-tech entertainment devices.
The cultural technology section shows the latest 3D technology and gives visitors a chance to tinker with the latest gadgets.
They include what's called a "Digi-log Book" that creates virtual images on the screen by interacting with the reader or viewer.
There's also what's called the "Digital Protrait Studio" in which a computerized program paints a portrait using different brush styles and aesthetic techniques.
The fair has also brought together leaders and experts from Korea and abroad to exchange notes on the rapidly changing new media industry and discuss issues such as licensing, merchandising and marketing of cultural content.

"I think it's a very good experience because it's a very good networking platform. So the number of business opportunities that one can develop through is great".

There were also keynote speeches from people who have actual experience in the art world.
They were notable figures like Trever Nunn the acclaimed director of the musical "Cats".
Nunn shared his professional experiences and how his works ended up making theater history.

"These experiences, initially beyond my imagination, have convinced me of the power of theater, of living theater to touch the lives of people everywhere, and to unify different cultures and customs in a spontaneous combustion of shared joy, shared emotion and yes, shared optimism".

And there's animation too and lot's of it.
Popular characters such as Pororo, Pucca and Dibo which have turned into lucrative exports and televised overseas are on display.
There are also musical performances that fuse traditional Korean instruments and media art.
The admission is free of charge and the fair will run through October 4th.

Thank you, Jihae for that report.
We'll see you next week.
My pleasure.
