57th Berlin Int'l Film Festival Opens

The curtain has risen for the 57th Berlin International Film Festival on Thursday. This year some 370 films have entered the world-famous festival.

A total of 22 films will compete for the Golden Bear Award for best motion picture, the winner of which will be announced on February 18th.

The 22 films in the running for the top prize include eight European films, including two from Germany, three American films, four Asian films, two Latin American pictures, and several joint film projects.

Two Korean feature films are in the competition entry - Director Park Chan-wook's latest feature film "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK" and Korean-French work "Hyazgar" directed by Zhang Lul, a Korean expatriate living in China.

In addition, "Woman on the Beach" by Director Hong Sang-soo and "No Regret" by Director Lee Song-hee-il were invited to the Panorama section, and Director Lee Yoon-ki's "Ad-Lib Night" to the Young Forum. Two other Korean movies, "Ice Bar" and "Like A Virgin", were included in the Generation section that focuses on younger audiences.
