80 Restored Classic The Housemaid Released on DVD

Director Kim Ki-young's best known work and a all-time classic of Korean cinema is finally available on DVD. Over several years, "The Housemaid - 1960" (1960) went through a painstaking restoration process carried out by the Korean Film Archive with help from Martin Scorcese's World Cinema Foundation. The resulting work has traveled to film festivals worldwide and is now published on DVD.

The release contains a number of special bonuses including a 40-page English-Korean booklet, plus commentary by Bong Joon-ho and film critic KIM Young-jin and pre- and post-restoration image comparisons. Subtitles in English, Korean, Japanese and French are included.

"The Housemaid - 1960" is the tale of a middle-aged piano teacher who has his hands full trying to provide for his pregnant wife and two kids. He hires a housemaid (Lee Eun-shim) to help out around the house, but the strange and sultry young woman has other plans in mind as she sets out to seduce him. Tragedy begets tragedy, as wife and mistress face off in increasingly manipulative and horrifying ways for power over the household and their clueless lover.
