Korea, being a leading global media content provider held the 9th BCWW an international media exhibition in Seoul on Thursday.
"Broadcast Worldwide 2009" is a three-day event that consists of two parts: an exhibition promoting international exchanges in broadcasting and global media forums where participants can learn about the latest trends in the content market and media industry.

[Reporter : Jang Ji-yun jiyun.jang@arirang.co.kr] "Over 5-thousand buyers and sellers from prominent broadcasting companies such as Japan's NHK and the UK's BBC gathered here today to check out each others' media content and to seek business opportunities".

Kim Dae-gi, Korea's Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Director of the Korea Creative Content Agency Lee Jae-woong, as well as CEOs from domestic television networks attended the opening of the exhibition.
Organizers say they hope this year's market will bring many distribution deals for Korean production companies and at the same time help raise the country's exports.

[Interview : Kim Dae-gi, Vice Minister Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism] "I believe what's really important is that we are able to spread Korea's culture through exporting our programs. The government plans to give its full support in this sector so that the country can become one of the top five leading content powerhouses by 2012".

A buyer from China Entertainment TV, attending for the second time, says Korea's BCWW has become one of the most important content markets in Asia and a must-attend for industry professionals.
He also added that there's still a great demand for Korean entertainment content among Chinese viewers.

[Interview : Richard Lee, President China Entertainment TV] "Lately, we were looking for more kind of variety. Because most of the Korean TV dramas is so-called love romance. And I can see that in this today, when I came here today, there's a lot more. There are some spy kind of series and some on how to be good, super housewife. I think it's a kind of new kind of series, new kind of thinking".

This year the BCWW exhibition is expected to bring roughly 37 billion won or 30 million US dollars in deals as there has been a 25 percent increase in the number of participants compared to last year.
The event has regularly attracted industry people from Asia and Europe but what's special about this year is that there's even participation from Middle Eastern and African countries as well.
For those interested the content market will be held until the 12th at COEX in southern Seoul.
