Actor becomes honorary senior superintendent

Choi Bool-am, a 72-year-old actor better known as an outstanding investigator in the TV drama "Chief Detective", has been promoted from honorary superintendent to honorary senior superintendent, according to the National Police Agency (NPA).

Choi played the head of an investigation team in the hit drama which aired in the '70s and '80s.

"Chief Detective" was a drama series that portrayed the symbolic significance of police investigations", said an NPA officer.

"Because the status of police investigations has been elevated, we are promoting Choi and his colleagues who were appointed as honorary superintendent and inspector at the time the drama series aired in 1977".

"Although it has been 23 years since the series was last aired, it is still regarded as the drama series that best represents the police", said NPA chief Cho Hyun-oh. "Let us make this an opportunity to reflect on the police figures portrayed through the drama, and I express my gratitude to producers".

"I am aware of the prestige of the rank and role of a senior superintendent", said Choi, adding, "I will serve as an exemplary citizen and strive to become a bridge between people and the police".

Lee Yeon-hun, the producer of the drama and Yoon Dae-sung, the script writer were also promoted to honorary senior superintendent and honorary senior inspector, respectively.

"Chief Detective" was exceedingly popular when it was broadcast. It started airing on March 6, 1971, and continued until Oct. 12, 1989, with a total of 880 episodes.
