Actor Calls Untrue Diploma Info a 'Mistake'

Korean-American model and actor Daniel Henney has said that his academic background as currently reported on some web portals is wrong. Henney stars in the new film "My Father" to be released on Sept. 6.

According to some websites, the 29-year-old actor has a diploma from the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Henney and his agency said in an interview with the Chosun Ilbo on Friday that he was never admitted to that school and that they don't know the source of the mistaken information.

- Was your academic background merely miswritten?

▶We don't know where the websites got that version of Henney's profile. When Henney lived in Chicago in 2001, he was selected to model for agency ARIA. After being selected as a model, he couldn't continue his studies because he was busy modeling in various cities in the U.S and in Hong Kong.

- Didn't you know that his profile was wrong?

▶(Henney's manager answered.) It was totally the agency's mistake. Henney didn't know anything about the miswritten academic background. Probably due to mistakes during interpretation, some articles wrote that Henney's final diploma came from the University of Illinois at Chicago or University of Chicago. But the agency didn't correct the errors. We apologize deeply for that.

- For several months there's been a clamor in Korea concerning the phony academic backgrounds of some celebrities.

▶I'm studying Korean very hard, but I can't understand news articles accurately yet. I didn't think about searching for information in Korean through the portal sites. And I didn't care a bit about how my academic background was being portrayed. I didn't dream of faking my background nor did I need to do that. Anyway, as a public person, I'm afraid it was my mistake.

- Please say a few words to your fans.

▲I have worked very hard as an actor and model. But, again, I didn't intentionally fake my background, and I didn't earn money by using a fictional diploma. However, I apologize for not having corrected the error sooner.
