"I thank you for the concern and you coming here today", Joo said to fans ahead of entering the 306th draft located at Uijeongbu of Gyeonggi Province. A total of some 200 fans from Korea and Japan had gathered to bid him farewell.

Joo had addressed his fans on his official website the previous day too, thanking them for "their unchanging love" and promising he "will return a changed man".

The 27-year-old actor will serve as a full-time officer on the reserves forces after undergoing a five-week training session.

Joo is a former model who became popular after making his acting debut in the hit 2006 drama "Princess Hours". He halted his career last April however, after receiving a six-month jail term suspended for a year along with 120 hours of community service for illegal drug use.
